HENRI LACHIÈZE-REY

1927 1974

Based in Paris, Lyon and Saint-Tropez, Henri Lachieze-Rey is the painter of interior scenes and more particularly of cafes and venues. Lachièze-Rey endeavors to convey the atmosphere of these everyday moments, playing with the framing, denoting an influence from Bonnard and Vuillard. Portraits are another recurring subject, painted with great tenderness. Lachièze-Rey is a painter of light, deaf or on the contrary very vivid when it comes to rendering that of the beaches of the South of France. Through his attraction to abstraction, his works bordering on the informal, and by the generous use of material, Lachièze-Rey is close to the Lyon group of Sanzistes, led by André Cottavoz.
